Finance Manager, External Reporting & Controls

Reporting to the CFO, the successful candidate will be Diamond Estates top technical accountant utilizing their in-depth understanding of IFRS, relentless drive to continually strengthen their accounting knowledge, and superior interpersonal skills to help create an environment of continuous improvement and best in-class practices.

This multifaceted role will have responsibility for the entire external financial reporting process as well as financial compliance and management of Diamonds financial control framework. In order to be successful, the chosen candidate will be highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and will be able to work autonomously while partnering with others within the organization as well as key external stakeholders to meet tight timelines and produce high quality work. In addition to this, the successful candidate will strive to develop a thorough understanding of Diamond Estates multi-layered business to continuously improve the depth and insightfulness of the MD&A, proactively applying this knowledge to improve the internal control framework.

Duties and responsibilities
Reporting:
  • Preparation of quarterly financial statements under IFRS including note disclosures and MD&A;
  • Coordinate reporting requirements including inputs for statements across finance team;
  • Quarterly financial filings required by lenders and the TSX;
  • Monthly and quarterly lender reporting;
  • Primary liaison with external investor relations parties;
  • Adhoc reporting to support board requests;
Compliance:
  • Research complex transactions and establish accounting policies in accordance with IFRS, ensuring consistent application across all lines of business;
  • Prepare memo’s for CFO and audit committee outlining the effect of specific IFRS’s on business operations;
  • Stay abreast of upcoming changes to IFRS, and proactively assess risks and opportunities to the organization;
Controls:
  • Working closely with the Corporate Controller with the objective of safeguarding company assets and providing clear financial guardrails, you will:
  • Review existing policies to assess effectiveness and identify gaps;
  • Develop policies as business needs arise;
  • Develop and execute an internal audit process to continually assess the effectiveness of the established controls;
  • Stock options reporting, including maintenance and ownership of OpTrack, the stock options database and reporting tool;
Other:
  • Act as primary contact on income tax matters, compilation and preparation of information for the tax returns, engaging external tax advisors to complete and review all returns and related filings on a timely basis;
  • Other activities and tasks related to the accounting function as deemed necessary and as capacity permits;
  • Assist with M&A transactions, capital raises, lender requirements, etc
Experience
Required experience:
  • A university degree with a major in accounting/finance;
  • Accounting designation (preferably 5+ years post-graduation);
  • Significant experience (3+ years) using Caseware Working papers;
  • 3+ years’ experience in an accounting position in a company reporting under IFRS;
  • Experience preparing full suite of financial statements including note disclosures and MD&A for senior management;
  • Above average excel and power point skills
Preferred experience:
  • Be from a top tier accounting firm with a majority of time spent supporting publicly reported companies under IFRS;
  • Corporate tax;
  • Exceptional planning and organizing skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, set and manage expectations;
  • Experience with consolidation accounting;
  • Knowledge of best practices in reporting and compliance;
